Innovation Safari Tour

Explore the facilities of The TechMed Centre

Take part in a Safari tour and search for innovations. In this 50-minute guided tour, you discover the state-of-the-art and future innovations that are being developed in the facilities of the TechMed Center. Its facilities range from high-tech research labs for early-stage research & development activities to simulated healthcare environments with real medical equipment that can be used for training of professionals or as a testbed for preclinical studies. Finally, we have access to the medical facilities of an extensive network of clinical partners that can be used for research and training.

  • Simulation & Training

Its simulated environment is used by as a safe learning environment where students can experiment, make mistakes and learn. It’s not just a “skills lab”, but a holistic environment where students learn to approach problems using their skills, knowledge and attitude. It consists of various simulated healthcare environments, ranging from operating rooms, intensive care units to a simulated house environment. All sessions can be captured using state of the art monitoring equipment and software, which is used in debriefing rooms to evaluate the scenarios.

    THE TOUR INCLUDES:

Each tour will start in the TechMed Centre with a general introduction and visit to the two simulated operating rooms, the ICU complex and visit the specific areas below:

    • OR complex (extended visit)
    • ICU complex (extended visit)
    • Simulation rooms
  • Health, Wellbeing and Technology

    THE TOUR INCLUDES:

Each tour will start in the TechMed Centre with a general introduction and visit to the two simulated operating rooms, the ICU complex and visit the specific areas below:

    eHealth House

The eHealth House provides a simulated living environment (i.e. living lab) where technology can be tested in a realistic but controlled setting. As of such, the eHealth House provides an experimental environment for research, education and developments in health technology.

    BMS lab/bus

The BMS Lab possesses mobile lab facilities in addition to its main lab facilities. At times normal lab facilities do not fit the research question or population. Participants might not be able or willing to go to a university or a researcher might want to study in a more naturalistic setting. The Experivan – the BMS Lab’s mobile lab facilities – offers a versatile platform to conduct research on the road.

  • Health robotics

The TechMed Centre has high-tech research labs for early-stage research & development activities in robotics. These range from wearable robotics, like prosthetics and exoskeletons to surgical robotics in the OR.

    THE TOUR INCLUDES:

Each tour will start in the TechMed Centre with a general introduction and visit to the two simulated operating rooms, the ICU complex and visit the specific areas below:

    • RAM lab demo's
    • Wearable lab demo's
  • Medical imaging

The Medical Imaging Labs are dedicated to all sorts of preclinical imaging for research or educational purposes. The labs aim to facilitate preclinical diagnostic imaging and image guided interventions with phantoms or using human subjects. The Medical Imaging labs consist of several imaging suites & modalities.

    THE TOUR INCLUDES:

Each tour will start in the TechMed Centre with a general introduction and visit to the two simulated operating rooms, the ICU complex and visit the specific areas below:

    • MRI labs
    • Ultrasound labs
    • X-ray lab
  • Bioengineering

The bioengineering labs of the TechMed Centre are based in the Zuidhorst Building. It contains 650 m2 of class ML1 and ML2 cell biology labs (not included in the tour), 550 m2 chemical labs and approximately 600 m2 physics labs. The labs are equipped for experimental work with new biomaterials, applied stem cell technologies, development of injectable hydrogels and artificial organ technologies. The combination of the bioengineering lab infrastructure, MESA+ nanotechnology expertise and cleanroom facilities provide an excellent breeding ground for organ-on-a-chip developments.
