Biography

Marcelo Ribeiro, PhD
River BioMedics - CSO

Marcelo is leading the scientific development of River BioMedics. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry form Lisbon University, Portugal. In 2008, he moved to the Netherlands, where he completed his Master’s in Drug Innovation at Utrecht University. During his PhD research, at the department of Anatomy and Embryology of the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) headed by Prof. dr. Christine Mummery, he specialized in hiPSC-derived cardiomyocyte maturation and disease modelling. In the past 4 years, Marcelo held a Postdoc position at the department of Applied Stem Cell Technologies at the University of Twente headed by Prof. dr. Robert Passier, where he acquired extensive knowhow on tissue engineering, microfluidics and organ-on-chip technology. Marcelo has an active entrepreneurial spirit and strong will to translate his research into a commercial product for societal valorization.
