Clinical applicability of IMUs for 3D movement analysis

The presentation will give an outline of the shortcomings of clinical 3D gait analysis using infrared markers. It will explain why it is essential to develop and use innovative techniques such as inertial measurement units (IMU's) for clinical motion analysis. Its main focus will be the ecological validity of clinical gait analysis using infrared markers in children with cerebral palsy, and an overview will be given on current and upcoming research in this area.

After my bachelor’s degree in Human Movement Sciences I studied Medicine at the Groningen University. In 2013 I started working in Roessingh Centre for Rehabilitation, first as a residence and since 2018 as a rehabilitation physician. My main field of interests are clinical gait analysis and pediatric rehabilitation, in which I focus on patients with cerebral palsy and spinal cord injury.
