Pooling Staff to deal with shortages of ED nurses in the region
Two studies were conducted with regard to the problem of nurse shortages in the emergency department (ED). The first study focused on the opinions of nurses and managers with regard to the impeding and facilitating factors when working in a regional float pool. The focus of the second study was to create a simulation model to underpin the added value of a float pool.
Both studies were positive about a regional float pool. As a result, AZE and the ED’s in the region are investigating how a float pool should be implemented, the first idea is to start with ED nurses in training. The ultimate goal is to reduce the amount of freelancers and together fight the problem of staff shortage.
