AI and ultralong EEG for better diagnostics and treatment of epilepsy
I will discuss epilepsy and the diagnostic and treatment challenges of this neurological disorder. Subsequently, I will discuss how AI can assist in ultrafast reviewing of recordings of electrical brain activity (EEG) and contribute to improved diagnostics. Next, I will introduce the PREDYCT study (www.predyct.nl). This study aims to identify biomarkers in ultralong EEG recordings to predict the efficacy of treatment of epilepsy patients with neuromodulation.

Biography
I work as a neurologist/clinical neurophysiologist at the MST and am one of the consultants for neurological patients in the ICU. Research involves the pathophysiology of epilepsy and ischaemia. Nationwide we have established EEG monitoring in the ICU to predict neurological outcome after cardiac arrest. Other ongoing studies relate to improved diagnostics with AI and assessment of the efficacy of neuromodulation in patients with epilepsy using ultralong EEG recordings (> 1 year).
